Many secondary schools today have disbanded a traditional recess program in order to prevent unruly behavior. At Educational Harbor, we understand the benefits of all grade levels having the opportunity to take a break from their studies to socialize. A number of our middle and high schoolers voluntarily play games such as four square and basketball, as well as playing board or card games like Uno. These moments help students to bond and release anxiety or stress from the classroom by having time outside. Additionally, students have the opportunity to work in our community garden during this time, read a choice book, or draw, giving some time for a creative outlet as well.
